The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is focused on his duties and has no time for individuals described as “political hushpuppis,” according to his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka. The remarks were aimed at Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu, a House of Representatives member from Ideato North and South Federal Constituency in Imo State.

Olayinka accused Ugochinyere of engaging in transactional politics, alleging that he operates on a “retainership” basis, delivering services to whoever pays his bills. This statement comes in response to claims by the Action Peoples Party (APP) and the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) that Wike and security agencies were plotting to arrest Ugochinyere.

In a statement on Friday, Olayinka dismissed CUPP as an irrelevant entity, stating that its original purpose—to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election—has long been fulfilled. He criticized Ugochinyere for continuing to exploit CUPP, describing it as a non-existent organization, and for using his APP platform for financial gain.

Allegations Against Ugochinyere

Olayinka suggested that Ugochinyere should address grievances from his political associates rather than accuse Wike or security agencies of conspiracy. He stated, “If Ugochinyere has collected allowances from anyone and failed to deliver, he should resolve it with them.”

The aide further alleged that Ugochinyere uses CUPP and APP to serve personal interests and questioned his integrity, adding that the House of Representatives member might be facing issues with individuals unhappy with his dealings.

Wike’s Focus on FCT Development

Olayinka emphasized that Minister Wike remains committed to the development of the FCT as mandated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “Wike is too busy to engage with attention-seeking individuals like Ugochinyere,” he concluded.

The controversy highlights ongoing political tensions and allegations of misconduct involving key political figures.
