The Oyo State Government has arrested the organisers of a children’s party in Ibadan, which tragically ended in a deadly stampede. The event, held at Islamic High School, Basorun, was organised by Queen Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, in collaboration with Agidigbo 88.7 FM, a radio station owned by Oriyomi Hamzat.

Thecompodium.com earlier reported that the stampede occurred on Wednesday morning, leading to the deaths of several attendees, mostly children. Many others were injured and are currently receiving treatment at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. While the exact number of casualties remains unknown, the incident has caused widespread grief and shock across the state.

Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed the tragic development in a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account. He expressed deep sympathy for the affected families and announced that the organisers of the event had been taken into custody as investigations continue.

“Earlier today, an incident occurred at Islamic High School, Basorun, the venue of an event organised for families. Sadly, a stampede at the venue has led to multiple loss of lives and injuries,” the governor’s statement read.

He assured the public that the government had taken measures to restore order at the venue, deploying security agents and medical personnel to the scene. Attendees were escorted out, and the event was immediately stopped to prevent further casualties.

Governor Makinde vowed that all those directly or indirectly responsible for the tragedy would be held accountable. He urged the public to remain calm as the investigation unfolds.

“Our hearts remain with the families and loved ones impacted by this tragedy. May the souls of the departed rest in peace. Amen,” he concluded.

This unfortunate incident has drawn widespread sympathy and calls for stricter crowd control measures at public events to prevent future occurrences.
