Tragedy struck the Okija community in Anambra State on Saturday morning as a stampede at a rice distribution event reportedly claimed the lives of several residents.

According to a preliminary report by TheCable, the incident occurred during a yuletide rice distribution program intended to support residents ahead of the festive season.

The exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, but eyewitnesses describe the scene as chaotic, with many struggling to receive their share of the food items.

Emergency responders and local authorities are yet to provide an official statement on the incident, as investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the stampede and the number of lives lost.
