Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has issued a strong warning to individuals and groups unlawfully in possession of government properties, urging them to return the assets immediately or face severe consequences.

The governor’s warning was conveyed in a statement on Thursday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere. Mutfwang declared his administration’s resolve to recover all public assets and revealed plans to establish a special task force to track and reclaim properties illegally acquired or sold without due process.

“Very soon, we will establish a task force to recover all government properties currently in illegal possession or occupation across the state and beyond,” Mutfwang stated.

He further declared that individuals found guilty of unauthorized sales of government assets would face strict penalties. “Anyone involved in the unauthorized sale of government property will be uncovered and severely punished. It is only a matter of time before we catch up with such individuals,” he warned.

The governor also addressed the issue of fraudulent Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), emphasizing that holders of such documents would not be spared. He urged those with illegal C of Os to voluntarily surrender them, warning that any forced recovery process would come at a financial cost to the defaulters.

“We will investigate and deal decisively with those holding illegal C of Os. A grace period will be given for voluntary surrender. However, if we have to come after you, the resources spent on the recovery process will not go in vain – you will bear the full cost,” Mutfwang stated firmly.

The governor’s remarks have sparked discussions on the government’s renewed effort to protect public assets and hold offenders accountable, with many commending the proactive approach.
