Prominent Commissioner Passes Away

The Commissioner for Women Affairs in Bayelsa State, Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei, has passed away.

She died on the morning of Monday, December 30, 2024, following a prolonged battle with breast cancer.

Family sources disclosed that Mrs. Bidei’s health worsened after she suffered a stroke and a heart attack, which ultimately led to her demise.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, the Bayelsa State Government expressed shock and deep sorrow over the loss. Governor Douye Diri and members of the state executive council extended their heartfelt condolences to her family.

The statement read:
“Our hearts go out to the bereaved family, especially the widower, Chief Jackson Bidei, and their children. Our sincerest sympathies and prayers are with them during this difficult time of grave bereavement.

“Mrs. Bidei’s life and work left a profound impact on Bayelsa State and its people. Her dedication as a public servant and loyal party member was unmatched. She tirelessly championed the welfare and empowerment of women in our state, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of many.”

The statement further described her as an invaluable member of the state’s executive council who played a crucial role in shaping policies and programs that benefited Bayelsa’s citizens.

“Her passing has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill. We will dearly miss her passion, commitment, and inspiring contributions. May her soul find eternal rest in the bosom of our Lord,” the statement added.

Mrs. Bidei’s demise marks a significant loss for Bayelsa State, as she was celebrated for her tireless efforts to uplift women and improve the lives of residents.
