Cooking gas prices in Nigeria have seen a slight reduction, providing relief for households nationwide.
A market review showed that the average cost of 1kg of cooking gas is now around ₦1,350. However, the price varies depending on location and cylinder size.
The latest price for 1kg of cooking gas is ₦1,350, while 3kg costs ₦4,050.
A 5kg cylinder is priced at ₦6,750, and 6kg goes for ₦8,100. For larger cylinders, 10kg is sold at ₦13,500, and 12.5kg costs ₦16,875.
In October, the Federal Government stopped the export of locally produced Liquefied Petroleum Gas, also known as cooking gas, to prioritise domestic supply.
This may have contributed to the crash in the price of gas
Although the decline is welcomed, consumers are still urging for further action to make cooking gas more affordable, especially as living costs continue to rise.
In a related development, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has partnered with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) to supply 60 million litres of petrol every week.
This means IPMAN will receive up to 240 million litres of petrol monthly, increasing its distribution capacity.
Chinedu Ukadike, IPMAN’s National Publicity Secretary, explained that the deal lets members collect petrol directly from the Dangote refinery, cutting out middlemen.
This is part of Dangote’s plan to improve fuel distribution across Nigeria as the refinery expands its operations.
