The Nigeria Police Force has raised alarm over the increasing misuse of the name and office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) by some individuals and officers engaging in illegal and unprofessional conduct.

In a public notice issued on Thursday, December 28, 2024, and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police expressed concern over the persistent unethical behavior of a few officers, which continues to undermine the reputation and integrity of the force.

According to the statement, some officers and individuals fraudulently invoke the IGP’s name to intimidate their victims and carry out illegal activities, misleading the public into believing these actions are sanctioned at the highest level. This tactic often discourages victims from reporting such misconduct to higher authorities.

The police urged Nigerians to exercise caution when approached by individuals claiming to have connections with the IGP or senior officers, especially if such claims are used to seek influence or favors. Citizens are encouraged to report such cases promptly to ensure accountability.

To facilitate reporting, the force provided the following contact details for key officials:

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force PRO, Abuja: 08037168147

CSP Taiwo Oyewale, Head, IGP Special Investigation Unit, Abuja: 08069318238

SP Sherriff Lawal, ADC to the IGP: 08094712605

The statement further emphasized the importance of public collaboration in reporting misconduct, noting that the Heads of Complaint Response Units (CRU) in each state and Commissioners of Police are available to address grievances.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. We urge all Nigerians to work with us by reporting any suspicious activities to ensure justice and fairness at all times,” the statement read.

This move is part of the force’s ongoing efforts to rebuild public trust and ensure accountability within its ranks.
