The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has denied reports of a N30,000 Christmas cash transfer scheme allegedly organized by the commission.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, attributed the false claims to fraudsters using a cloned Facebook account bearing the name and image of the commission’s Board Chairman, Chiedu Ebie.

Thompson-Wakama clarified that neither the NDDC nor its officials are associated with the alleged cash transfer and warned the public to be cautious of such fraudulent schemes. The cloned account, titled “Niger Delta State 30,000 Naira Xmas Cash Transfer,” falsely claims that the NDDC Chairman is offering cash gifts to Nigerians for the festive season.

The statement also revealed that the scammers are luring unsuspecting individuals to register and apply for the fake cash transfer. The commission emphasized that it has alerted security agencies to investigate and apprehend those behind the fraudulent activity.

The NDDC urged Nigerians to avoid engaging with questionable individuals, adding that it will not be liable for any financial loss resulting from such dealings. It advised anyone seeking information on its activities to rely only on the commission’s official website and verified social media handles.

The public is also encouraged to report any suspicious activities related to the scam to the appropriate security agencies for necessary action.
