Dr. (Mrs.) Hannah Oziohu Abraham officially handed over the leadership of the Kogi State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Obangede, to Mr. James Anaza Duro on Wednesday, February 12, following the expiration of her tenure. The handover ceremony took place during the inaugural meeting of the newly appointed provost.

In her farewell address, Mrs. Abraham expressed gratitude to God for sustaining her throughout her tenure in good health and sound mind. She also appreciated the staff for their unwavering support during her leadership and urged them to extend the same level of cooperation to Mr. Duro as he assumes office.

Reflecting on her tenure, which began in 2018 through appointment by former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, she highlighted several achievements, including:

Renaming the institution to Kogi State College of Nursing Sciences, Obangede.

Securing accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Renovating classrooms and increasing staff strength.

Establishing the Information Unit.

Introducing the Basic Midwifery program.

Setting up an Entrepreneurship Unit.

Progressing towards the accreditation of the Higher National Diploma (HND) program.

She expressed confidence that she was leaving the institution in a better state than she met it and extended her appreciation to both the former and current governors for their support.

New Provost’s Commitment

In his acceptance speech, Mr. James Anaza Duro acknowledged the efforts of the outgoing provost in strengthening the college and fostering teamwork. He assured the staff that his administration would be inclusive and committed to the welfare of all employees. He emphasized his dedication to making the college a priority and pledged to uphold its progress and integrity.

Mr. Duro also promised to maintain a collaborative relationship with Mrs. Abraham, recognizing her as a valuable resource in the educational sector. He urged the staff to remain cooperative, stressing that his leadership would be for the benefit of all, rather than serving personal interests.

Management Team’s Remarks

Speaking on behalf of the management team, the College Librarian, Mr. John Adeniyi, and the Registrar, Mr. Usman Reuben, commended the outgoing provost for her dedication and diligence in office. They acknowledged her contributions to the growth of the institution and emphasized the importance of discipline, warning against laziness and poor work ethics.

Additionally, Mrs. Omeiza expressed gratitude to God for guiding Dr. Abraham throughout her tenure and praised her for fostering teamwork and unity among staff. She advised the new provost to remain focused, avoid distractions, and work diligently to uphold the trust placed in him by Governor Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo.

The handover ceremony concluded with prayers and well-wishes for both the outgoing and incoming provosts as they embark on their respective new journeys.
