Lokoja, Kogi State – Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo has officially revoked the requirement for Tax Clearance Certificates (TCC) as a mandatory condition for gaining admission into tertiary institutions within the state.

The decision followed widespread public concern over the policy, with the Governor reaffirming his administration’s dedication to reducing the financial burden on residents.

Despite the cancellation, Governor Ododo encouraged citizens to remain responsible by paying their taxes and maintaining up-to-date tax records.

Alhaji Sule Enehe, Chairman of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), disclosed the development during a press briefing at the Service headquarters. He confirmed that the KGIRS is notifying tertiary institutions across the state about the Governor’s directive. However, he noted that certain benefits and privileges might be withheld from students whose parents fail to meet their tax obligations.

This policy change highlights the state government’s effort to balance citizen welfare with fiscal responsibility.
