Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Pleads Not Guilty to ₦80.2 Billion Fraud Charges

The immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has pleaded not guilty to an 18-count charge of fraud brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The charges, which were read to Bello in court, include allegations of money laundering, criminal breach of trust, and the misappropriation of public funds amounting to approximately ₦80.2 billion.

Bello, who appeared before the court on Thursday, denied all the charges leveled against him. The EFCC alleges that the former governor engaged in illegal financial activities during his tenure as governor of Kogi State.

The case is part of the EFCC’s broader efforts to hold public officials accountable for alleged financial misconduct. The court is expected to set a date for further hearings on the matter.

As the trial progresses, all eyes will be on the legal proceedings to see how the case unfolds, with public interest focused on issues of accountability and the rule of law in Nigeria.
