The presentation of the 2025 budget by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the National Assembly on Wednesday began on a dramatic and lighthearted note, marked by a mix of gaffes, cheers, and camaraderie among lawmakers.

The session took a humorous turn when President Tinubu mistakenly referred to the National Assembly as the 11th Assembly instead of the 10th Assembly. Lawmakers quickly corrected him, shouting “10th Assembly!” In response, the President admitted he wrote “11th” in his notes, sparking laughter in the chamber.

Adding to the moment, Tinubu quipped, “That means you are all reflected,” which drew even louder cheers from the lawmakers, setting a lively tone for the proceedings.

Before Tinubu began delivering the budget speech, lawmakers broke into a rendition of the popular anthem, “On your mandate, we stand,” as a show of support for the President.

In his opening remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised Tinubu for his accomplishments since taking office. He commended the President for advancing constituency projects and facilitating critical reforms, including tax reform bills aimed at boosting the economy.

Akpabio also assured Tinubu of the lawmakers’ continued support for his policies and initiatives, emphasizing their commitment to fostering collaboration between the executive and legislative arms for national development.

The 2025 budget presentation proceeded smoothly after the lighthearted start, with President Tinubu detailing his administration’s fiscal plans for the coming year.
