The Borno State High Court in Maiduguri has sentenced Aisha Alkali Wakil, popularly known as “Mama Boko Haram,” along with two others, to five years imprisonment each without the option of a fine. The verdict was delivered on Thursday, November 28, 2024, by Justice Aisha Kumaliya.

The court also ordered the three convicts to jointly and severally refund the sum of ₦3.5 million to the petitioner. Failure to do so would result in an additional five-year jail term for each of them.

The case stemmed from allegations that Wakil and her co-defendants fraudulently obtained a Toyota Camry 2012 model valued at ₦6 million from the petitioner under the pretext of purchasing the vehicle. However, they neither paid for the car nor returned it to the owner.

It is worth recalling that in January 2022, Aisha Wakil, a Muslim convert from Abia State, was similarly convicted alongside two others for obtaining ₦71 million from a man under false pretenses. She was sentenced to five years imprisonment in that case as well.
