The headquarters of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO) in Lagos was engulfed in flames during the early hours of today, Thursday, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
The fire, which reportedly began around midnight on Christmas Day, raged into Boxing Day morning, consuming significant portions of the facility. Although the exact cause of the inferno remains unknown, it has already resulted in the loss of millions of naira worth of property.
Officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were on-site to battle the blaze, working tirelessly to prevent its spread to other parts of the institute. Despite their efforts, the fire proved challenging to contain, raising concerns about the extent of the damage.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far, but the institute’s operations are expected to face significant disruptions due to the destruction of critical infrastructure.
Efforts to fully extinguish the fire and assess the damages are ongoing as investigators work to determine the cause of the incident. The management of FIIRO has yet to release an official statement regarding the fire.
