In a statement released Tuesday, Governor Adeleke directed the Attorney General of the state to investigate the case and ensure the convict is included in the list of individuals to receive a prerogative of mercy before the year ends.

“I have read about the case. While I respect the separation of powers in our democracy, I have directed the Commissioner for Justice to begin the necessary processes to grant the young man a pardon,” the governor said.

Governor Adeleke emphasized Osun State’s commitment to justice and fairness, assuring citizens that the matter has his full attention. “Osun is a land of justice and equity. We must ensure fairness and uphold the sanctity of life,” he added.

The governor’s intervention comes in response to widespread public outcry and criticism of the judicial system over the harsh sentence. Many netizens have expressed shock and disapproval, calling for reform and leniency in such cases.

Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson, confirmed that the state government has attached a sense of urgency to its response, adding, “We are taking swift and responsible steps to address the matter.”

This move has been widely hailed as a compassionate and fair approach to restoring public confidence in the justice system.
