Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has criticized social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, for his recent prank about missing funds from his non-governmental organization (NGO).

The Martins Vincent Otse Initiative, launched in October, aims to tackle Nigeria’s educational challenges and has garnered substantial support, including a N100 million donation from music producer Don Jazzy.

However, on Friday, VeryDarkMan sparked controversy when he claimed in an Instagram video that hackers had stolen over N180 million from the NGO’s account. He alleged that a suspect had been arrested and the account frozen to prevent further losses. He also mentioned traveling to Jos to recover the funds.

These claims were debunked when police authorities in the Federal Capital Territory and Plateau State denied any knowledge of the incident. By Monday, the influencer admitted it was all a prank, stating he wanted to gauge public reactions.

In response, Fayose criticized VeryDarkMan’s actions in an Instagram video on Tuesday, describing the prank as irresponsible.

“My very dear brother, you don’t prank people with other people’s money. You can prank with your own money,” Fayose said. “What you did, if it were abroad where NGOs are properly regulated, they would have sanctioned you and asked you to step aside for breaching public confidence.”

Fayose also questioned the delay in utilizing the NGO funds. “This money has stayed too long in your account. When are you going to start work?” he asked.

The prank has drawn widespread criticism, with many questioning the credibility of VeryDarkMan’s organization following the incident.
