Civil servants in Benue State will enjoy an extended holiday this festive season, as Governor Hyacinth Alia has declared a two-week public holiday to celebrate Christmas and New Year.
The governor made the announcement on Tuesday during a press briefing at the Government House in Makurdi. The holiday will begin on December 24, 2024, and end on January 6, 2025.
Governor Alia stated that the extended break is aimed at allowing workers to spend quality time with their families and loved ones during the festive period.
Additionally, the governor urged civil servants to utilize the holiday to engage in farming activities to promote food security in the state.
“I urge you to seize the opportunity of this long holiday to attend to your agricultural pursuits by engaging in farming activities, ensuring there is an abundance of food in the state,” Alia said.
The governor clarified that essential services such as banks, energy providers, and security agencies will not be affected by the holiday and will continue operations as usual.
He also called on the people of Benue to embrace the spirit of love, unity, and peace while staying committed to building a prosperous state.
