The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has revealed that some individuals and groups are profiting from the prolonged insurgency and terrorism affecting the region.

Zulum spoke while appearing as a guest on Channels TV on Sunday night.

According to him, these beneficiaries are not confined to Borno but are spread nationwide, involving both civilians and military.
Zulum noted that informants within communities and cases of military officers supplying ammunition to insurgents have been uncovered, complicating efforts to restore peace.

He also pointed to foreign involvement and the state’s porous borders, especially around Lake Chad and the Sambisa forest, as contributing factors that provide safe zones for terrorist operations.

“Among the population. I cannot say who; we still have some people who don’t want to see the end of this crisis. They are benefiting from it, not only civilians; it cuts across all strata.

“Many times informants were arrested within the community; many times military personnel were arrested for trying to provide ammunition to the insurgents.

“The porosity of our borders, the fringes of Lake Chad, the Sambisa game reserve, make safe havens for terrorists,” he said.
