In a bid to ensure a stress-free yuletide for state workers, Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has approved the early payment of December salaries for civil servants and pensioners.
The Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, announced this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the payment, made on December 14, 2024, is intended to enable workers to plan and enjoy the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Fanwo stated, “The payment of December salary on the 14th of December is to enable civil servants plan and enjoy their Christmas and New Year holidays after working so hard throughout the year.”
He explained that the initiative mirrors a similar gesture made during the Sallah break, allowing civil servants to celebrate the festive season with their families. The commissioner added that the payment would also facilitate travel arrangements for workers intending to spend the holidays with loved ones.
“With this gracious approval by Governor Usman Ododo, civil servants who would want to travel for their holidays could also plan ahead without having to wait for salaries later in the month,” he noted.
Fanwo emphasized the administration’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce, describing the early payment as a reward for their hard work and dedication.
“Our civil servants have worked hard over the years and have supported our development policies and projects in no small measures. It is incumbent on us to also make their yuletide an enjoyable one through timely payment of their salaries,” the statement read.
He assured that Governor Ododo remains dedicated to prioritizing the welfare of civil servants as part of his administration’s development agenda.
This development comes as part of the governor’s broader effort to promote workers’ welfare, ensuring they have the financial support needed to meet their holiday needs in good time.
