FCT High Court Dismisses Yahaya Bello’s Bail Application
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has dismissed a bail application filed on behalf of former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello.
Presiding over the case, Justice Maryann ruled that the application was invalid as it was submitted before Bello was taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The judge emphasized that bail can only be granted to an applicant who is already in the custody of a law enforcement agency such as the Police, EFCC, or DSS.
Bello’s legal team had filed the bail application on November 22, but he was not detained by the EFCC until November 26, four days after responding to their invitation. He was subsequently arraigned before the court on November 27.
